Churchill is delighted to announce we have gained the Soil Association’s Food for Life Catering Mark accreditation at Silver level at Jubilee Academy in Walsall.
We began providing services at the school in September 2013 and before Food for Life were catering for approximately 120 children. We are delighted that this figure has increased over the last two years and we are now catering for approximately 150 children.
The Food for Life Catering Mark is an independent endorsement, backed by annual inspections, for food providers who are taking steps to improve the food they serve. Caterers are audited to ensure high standards of provenance and traceability are met, which provides reassurance that meals are freshly prepared using environmentally-sustainable and seasonal ingredients.
The aim of the scheme is to encourage and reward those who:
- serve fresh food
- source environmentally sustainable and ethical food
- make healthy eating easy
- champion local food producers
The silver Catering Mark standards use a system whereby points are scored for food served in three categories: Ethical and environmentally friendly food, Making healthy eating easy and Championing local producers. In addition to achieving points in these categories, we were also required to meet all bronze standards, including criteria such as displaying information about food provenance and only using non-GM ingredients.
Jennie Westley, Principal at the Academy, says: “I am so excited that our kitchen has been awarded the Silver Food for Life Award. It is an amazing achievement! It means that our children are fortunate enough to have a really healthy start in life and it gives the kitchen staff the recognition they deserve for their fantastic food.”
We are looking forward to extending our accreditation to include additional sites and continuing to share our passion for great food with current and future clients.
