Churchill wins award for sustainable purchasing

Churchill’s cleaning division was recently awarded the Sustainable Purchasing Award at the University of Leeds Sustainability Awards 2019. The Churchill Cleaning team was presented this award in partnership with the residential services team at the university for the implementation of the Craftex Purex system at the Charles Morris Halls site which provides accommodation for students.

The Craftex Purex system is a chemical-free cleaning solution, whereby water passes through seven stages of unique micro-filtration; and has assisted in removing over 80% of chemicals used on site. It also aims to reduce single use plastics and the need for chemical usage, helping to drive sustainability across the University of Leeds portfolio.

The Sustainability Awards is an annual event hosted by the University of Leeds that celebrates the outstanding work being carried out by people throughout the university to create positive change across the campus and further afield.

The Sustainable Purchasing Award commends those who have encouraged best practice and innovation in university purchasing. Nominations include those who have been involved in the process of purchasing more sustainable equipment or products and considers supply chains and sustainability procurement targets.

Phil Matis, Regional Manager for the Scotland and North region, commented: “The award win was a great achievement for the team and a fantastic demonstration of our true partnership with the University of Leeds. After attending the awards evening, it was great to see the work the university are doing to promote a more sustainable world for the next generations, and how our Group values and efforts in sustainability reflect those of our clients. We are looking forward to continuing our joint venture with the University of Leeds and hope to implement further ideas over the coming months to encourage a more sustainable future”.
