We celebrate the efforts and commitment of our hard working staff during the recent bad weather.

It’s fair to say that the recent weather has been quite something, even for the hardiest of folks. I think we were all aware that the so-called ‘beast from the east’ was due to arrive, but few could have imagined how wintry the weather has been, let alone how disruptive! As a nation, we aren’t famed for our ability to deal with snow all too well, but this week Churchill has shown it can be done and done well! Our teams up and down the country have pulled together to keep the morale high and deliver some fantastic service in what can only be described as exceptional conditions.
This week we received some thanks from our client North East Metro operations for helping keep services running through Storm Emma. The North East region has experienced some of the worst snowfall, so keeping the platforms gritted and safe for passengers to use has been a top priority. This week alone, Churchill staff have distributed over 29,000 kilos of rock salt to keep platforms free from dangerous ice. These efforts have been recognised by the MD for North East Metro, Tobyn Hughes, who commented: “Many of you have worked long hours in freezing temperatures and driving snow, or assisted those who have been … it is a great effort by everyone involved and one that has been commented on by hundreds of grateful passengers who have only been able to get around because we have been there for them”.
Churchill would also like to take this opportunity to commend its colleague Nelson Onukwue, who has been recognised for going above and beyond the call of duty during the difficult weather. Nelson received an award for his efforts, which saw him cycling between two EEAST facilities in Braintree, Essex, in order to keep the facilities clean during this difficult period. Chris Harding, who is Senior Regional Director for East Anglia & Herts, also took the opportunity thank all Churchill staff for “… the huge efforts that all cleaning teams at Churchill go to, to ensure clients’ facilities are maintained during such terrible weather conditions during the past week”.
Come rain, snow, or shine, it’s great to see Churchill delivering for its clients!
