SIA Changes to Licensing System

July 1, 2016

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) will introduce its new licensing system on Wednesday 6th July 2016.

From this date, people will be able to register for online accounts and apply for or renew SIA licences online. It will also allow users to change personal details remotely and consent to link to their employer, who may help with the application process. The system will generally provide a more efficient and effective service.

The new website will also allow businesses to set up online accounts, giving them access to new products such as ‘Licence Pay Only,’ where a business pays the licensing application fee for individuals, and ‘Watchlists,’ to check the licensed status of their staff.

The SIA stopped accepting licence applications after Friday 24th June to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible. The period of downtime will allow the SIA to manage existing applications, move data and carry out final checks on the new system.

As a security provider ranked in the top 5% of the SIA Approved Contractors Scheme, we welcome any innovations in terms of the increased engagement between security officers and their licencing authority, as well as any technological advance that reduces administrative burdens.
