Churchill awarded Armed Forces Covenant Bronze Status

Churchill signed the Armed Forces Covenant in August this year, and we’re delighted to announce that we have been awarded Bronze Status. The Covenant is a pledge that those who serve and have served in the armed forces and their families will be treated fairly in society.

The award is determined by the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) and recognises both those companies that have signed the Covenant, as well as those that “promote being armed forces-friendly and are open to employing reservists, armed forces veterans (including the wounded, injured and sick), cadet instructors and military spouses/partners.”

In addition to meeting these criteria, Churchill has been able to demonstrate its commitment to ex-armed forces personnel in a number of ways. Churchill has joined the defence business networking group and also engages in forces-friendly recruitment. This includes supporting veterans in the recruitment process, and working with hiring teams by training them to effectively engage with applicants who may not be familiar with a job recruitment process.

Churchill has been engaging with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP), a program where the Ministry of Defence works with Right Management to offer resettlement support, career transition advice and training opportunities.

Churchill also works with the Coming Home Centre veteran charity in Glasgow. Staff have been volunteering to spend their time with the veterans, clean up garden allotments and provide hot meals and drinks.

Louisa Clarke is operations director at Churchill and has been using her experience as a veteran to drive Churchill’s commitment to ex-armed forces personnel.

Reflecting on the Bronze Status award, Louisa said: “It’s testament to the great work we’ve been doing that we have been awarded Bronze Status so soon after signing the Covenant. We’ll use this award as a springboard to further our work, with the aim of achieving Silver Status next year.”
