Sustainability Partner Spotlight: Metsa

At Churchill, sustainable practices are at the core of what we do. Ensuring all our suppliers adhere to the same standards that we hold ourselves is equally as important.

It is our commitment to always working with sustainable suppliers and improving our own sustainability that sets us apart from other FM providers.

Sustainability on the agenda

At the recent COP26 event, it was fantastic to see sustainable innovation and the necessary drive for such solutions to be recognised as important. In 2021, we expanded our sustainable vision for Churchill Group, in order to understand more clearly what we can do, and what we should be doing as corporate citizens. For example, we’ve committed to the Science-Based Target initiative in order to reach our net-zero targets and keep in line with the 1.5°C future, as well as increasing the use of our PVA range across client sites in order to further reduce single-use plastics.

We are working with suppliers with the highest sustainability credentials to meet these goals. That’s why we have appointed Metsa as our preferred sustainability partner for the provision of paper consumables for our clients.

About Metsa

Metsa is a global paper manufacturer that takes great pride in its eco-actions. Metsa is renowned as a leader in sustainable forestry. Some of its stand-out credentials include:

  • Metsa is the only paper manufacturer in the world that is totally in control of its entire supply chain, from its forest to the end user.
  • 100% of its wood is traceable, so the company can ensure ethical standards from planting the seeds to harvesting.
  • 98% of its waste products were re-purposed in 2019, with a goal of achieving 100% by 2030.
  • Production facilities are certified according to ISO 14001 and ISO 9001.
  • Metsa tissue works with both FSC and PEFC, which are two different forest/wood certification organisations.
  • Metsa is the first paper manufacturer voted in the top 1% of companies for sustainability by EcoVadis.
  • It had a 22% reduction in fossil fuel CO2 emissions per ton of product from 2009 – 2018, and has a target of zero fossil fuel CO2 emissions by 2030.

About our partnership

For Churchill, this sustainability partnership confirms Metsa’s position as our preferred provider. We look forward to existing and future clients benefitting from our relationship and Metsa’s sustainable solutions. The compatibility of our environmental principles is important, as is the knowledge that our partner is as invested in a sustainable future as we are.

The benefits of this partnership include creating cleaner and more sustainable environments for clients, as well as giving washrooms a visual upgrade, which helps create a better guest experience.
