As part of Apprenticeship Week, we’re celebrating colleagues across the business who are continuing to develop their skills and invest in their professional growth through apprenticeships.
One of those colleagues is Rhiannon England, Head of Projects, who has been undertaking a Level 4 Associate Project Management apprenticeship alongside her role since October 2023.
Why Rhiannon chose an apprenticeship
Rhiannon decided to take on the apprenticeship because she wanted to strengthen her impact in her role and build on the experience she already had. With a strong operational background, the qualification has allowed her to step back and look at projects in a more structured and strategic way.
“I wanted something that would genuinely support me in my role and help me become more effective in what I do day to day” Rhiannon explains.
What she’s learned along the way
One of the biggest takeaways for Rhiannon has been learning how to identify risks early and tackle problems before they escalate. This has changed how she approaches projects, giving her more confidence in planning and thinking proactively.
The modules around consolidated planning, scope and business case management have been particularly useful. They’ve helped her connect the theory with real-life projects and apply new ways of thinking directly to her day-to-day work.

Making a difference
The impact of the apprenticeship has been clear in the way Rhiannon delivers her projects. Her work is consistently recognised for its high standards, strong organisation and positive outcomes. She’s known for leading her teams with clarity and keeping projects on track, even when things get busy or complex.
It’s also worth saying that Rhiannon’s commitment hasn’t gone unnoticed. Taking on an apprenticeship alongside a senior role is no small thing, and the level of dedication she’s shown throughout the programme has been genuinely impressive.
Balancing work, study and life
Like many apprentices, one of the biggest challenges has been finding the right balance between work, studying and home life. There have been particularly demanding periods, including a change in tutor and a six-month study break due to workload pressures.
Despite this, Rhiannon has stayed focused and positive, and her determination to keep going really reflects her mindset.
“Keep going, everything will be worth it in the end,” she says.
Support and encouragement
Support has played a big part in Rhiannon’s journey. Her current tutor has been a key source of guidance, and being able to connect with colleagues working towards the same qualification has also made a difference.
Having people around her who understand both the demands of the role and the expectations of the qualification has helped her stay motivated and on track.
Looking ahead
The apprenticeship has also shaped how Rhiannon sees her career and the wider world of project management. She’s gained a deeper understanding of how projects align with organisational goals, the importance of managing risk, and how to navigate complex stakeholder relationships.
Looking ahead, Rhiannon is focused on continuing to grow within the business, proud of how far she’s come and excited about what’s next.
Rhiannon’s journey is a great example of what apprenticeships can offer, no matter your role or level. It’s about learning, stretching yourself, and backing your own development.
We’re incredibly proud of Rhiannon and everything she’s achieved so far, and we can’t wait to see where her journey takes her next.
