Championing achievement: our colleagues’ successes in 2023

This year has been an incredible time of progress and achievement. Churchill would be nothing without our people, and we are fortunate to have some of the best in the business. As 2023 comes to a close, we would like to take the time to shout out to our wonderful colleagues across the Churchill Group – we are grateful for the hard work of each and every one. Here we celebrate some of their stories of empowerment, success and dedication.

Trek Stonehenge
In September, members of the Relationship team came together to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society through the Trek26 Stonehenge Challenge. Each member has experienced the effects of dementia in some way, and as a team they worked together to raise awareness and funds for this important cause. They walked 13 miles around Stonehenge and smashed their target by raising £2,159 in total – an incredible achievement.

London Marathon
Several Churchill colleagues took part in the London marathon in April, putting in months of work and dedication to complete the 26.2 miles, despite the April showers. They raised a total of over £12,000 for Oasis Community Learning’s ‘Living Rooms’ project, which is supporting the cost-of-living crisis by offering welcoming spaces with food, shelter and friendship for anyone in need.

Colleagues making a difference
At Churchill, we believe that each of our colleagues, no matter what their role, makes an important difference to our success. This year, our blog series has started to highlight some of our incredible colleagues across the business, and how they embody the ethos of our organisation.

This includes Kelly Harley, who with the Make Ready team, ensures ambulances get on the road in time and paramedics have the equipment needed to save lives by maintaining vehicle safety, cleanliness and equipment testing.

Facilities Manager Eric Davies is an integral source of support for his colleagues, engaging his team and initiating activities to bring his colleagues together as a community. He is also undergoing suicide prevention training after acting as a lifeline to colleagues during mental health crises.

We are proud to have such exceptional colleagues as part of the Churchill Group and are excited to showcase more in 2024.

Churchill became employee-owned
As part of Churchill’s mission to put its people first and empower staff, this year Churchill became an employee-owned company. We are delighted to have converted 53% of our business shares into a trust, which has employee welfare written into its core purpose.

Award Success

• Our incredible colleagues at On Verve won Disruptor of the Year at the prestigious Best Business Awards, for truly making a difference to people by going above and beyond, through their DayMaker concept. They also achieved silver in the UK Business Awards for the Best Customer Experience in the UK, a testament to their leadership and innovation in the guest services industry.
• One of Portfolio’s cleaning teams became Cleaning Team of the Year finalists in the Golden Service Awards, for delivering above and beyond.
• Churchill won the IWFM Impact Award for Technology for Project Oculus, our Virtual Reality (VR) training programme for cleaning operatives, which harnesses the latest technology to create an immersive experience in the rail sector.
• Amulet won the Security and Fire Excellence Award for Security Project of the Year, for their work with the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), due to its technical innovation and adaptability to the needs of ZSL.

These accomplishments not only reflect their dedication but also underscore our unwavering commitment to ensuring that at Churchill, everyone feels valued, rewarded, and part of an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive community. Congratulations to all, and well done everyone!
