As part of Apprenticeship Week, we’re celebrating colleagues who are taking on new challenges, learning new skills, and helping shape the future of our business.
One of those colleagues is Brandon Chambers, who is currently working towards a Level 7 AI Data Specialist apprenticeship alongside his role.
Brandon started the programme in the summer of 2025. It’s a 21-month course that covers everything from AI ethics and legal considerations to machine learning algorithms, all the technical skills needed to apply AI in a real business setting.
Why Brandon took this path
Brandon has always been interested in technology and innovation, and he’s the kind of person who naturally looks at processes and asks, “How can we do this better, faster, smarter?”
With AI becoming such a big part of modern business, it felt like the perfect area to explore. And while the business already works with AI, much of the technical expertise can come from external partners. For Brandon, the apprenticeship was a chance to learn something he enjoys while building knowledge from within.
“It was an opportunity to develop my skills and grow with the business at the same time,” he says.

What he’s learning
One of the biggest surprises for Brandon has been just how varied AI really is. Many people think of it as one single tool, but in reality, there are lots of different algorithms for different situations.
“Until you really dig in, you don’t realise how many different ways AI can be used,” Brandon explains. “It’s not one-size-fits-all, different situations need different solutions.”
The course has also opened his eyes to how AI is applied in other industries. For example, in healthcare, AI can be used to create highly personalised treatments, reducing the risk of misdiagnosis and adverse reactions. Seeing this kind of real-world impact has made him even more excited about the potential of AI.
Applying it in the business
Through the apprenticeship, Brandon has been able to apply what he’s learning in real time, exploring how AI can create efficiencies and support decision-making across the business. While the programme is still ongoing, it’s already helping him identify new opportunities and think more strategically about processes, innovation, and value delivery.
Overcoming challenges
Studying such a technical subject hasn’t been without its challenges. Some parts of the course are highly specialised, and at times the language and concepts can feel overwhelming, especially for those without a data background.
There is also the ongoing challenge of balancing study with a busy role. Brandon has recently moved into a new position, meaning he has had to learn a new role while continuing his apprenticeship.
Despite this, he has stayed committed and continues to push himself to keep learning and developing.
Looking ahead
Brandon is focused on building on the skills he’s developing through his apprenticeship. He’s particularly excited about the opportunity to play a bigger role in how the business leverages AI, helping to shape processes and share knowledge across the team.
As AI continues to grow in importance, he sees real potential to make an impact and support colleagues in applying it effectively. His advice to anyone starting an apprenticeship is clear: choose a programme that connects to your role or long-term goals.
“When you can put what you’re learning straight into practice, it makes the experience far more rewarding. And having a clear sense of where you want to go keeps you motivated every step of the way.”
Brandon’s journey shows just how powerful apprenticeships can be, not just for developing technical skills but for opening doors, building confidence, and creating opportunities to make a real difference. With determination and the right support, there’s no limit to what you can achieve.
