Churchill Group partners with Walking With The Wounded to strengthen veteran support

In 2022, Churchill Group proudly received the Gold Award from the Employer Recognition Scheme, an honour that reflects our deep and ongoing commitment to the Armed Forces community. Building on this foundation, we are delighted to announce a new partnership with Walking With The Wounded (WWTW).

This collaboration reflects a shared mission: to create meaningful opportunities and support systems for veterans and their families. Together, Churchill and WWTW will work to deliver real, lasting change through employment, training, and community support initiatives for those who have served.

“We are thrilled to expand our partnership with WWTW across the group and look forward to continued success. Whether it be providing enhanced support for our current veterans and creating opportunities for others, or raising awareness to change the narrative, our aligned values support us in making an impact for veterans and their families.”

Partnership goals

This partnership will help advance veteran employment and skills by creating roles within Churchill Group, offering access to training, apprenticeships, and job placements, and delivering employability programmes for veterans and their families. Mentoring will also be a key focus, helping veterans transition successfully into civilian careers.

We’re equally committed to strengthening community engagement. This includes supporting WWTW’s flagship events, co-developing outreach campaigns, and building stronger ties across our communities to raise awareness and drive change.

A vital part of our strategy is also to foster a veteran-friendly culture. We will continue to improve internal hiring practices, remove barriers to employment, and signpost support through WWTW’s mental health programmes, ensuring veterans and their families feel truly welcome and supported at Churchill Group.

These goals closely align with our commitments under the Armed Forces Covenant and our broader social value strategy, which aims to create opportunities for all, regardless of background. This partnership also complements our ambition to make the facilities management industry a space where veterans can build rewarding, long-term careers.

“A huge thank you to everyone at Churchill Services for partnering with Walking With The Wounded. We’re really excited to be working together to support those who’ve served. We are grateful for the support they have already shown through various fundraising challenges and are looking forward to entering this next stage of our journey together. The impact of their support will help us reach more veterans and provide life-changing services when they’re needed most. We’re proud to be working alongside them and are excited for what we can achieve together.”

Supporting our reservists and cadet force adult volunteers

At Churchill Group, we also proudly support colleagues who serve as Volunteer Reservists or Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs). We recognise the invaluable skills, discipline, and leadership they bring to the business, and our commitment goes beyond words.

To support their ongoing service, we offer up to 10 days of paid leave and 10 days of unpaid leave per year to meet training requirements. This applies to both reservists and CFAVs, with CFAV leave subject to business needs. This policy demonstrates our enduring support under the Armed Forces Covenant.

When a reservist is mobilised, their employment with Churchill is fully protected. They retain all contractual rights, including continuous service, annual leave accrual, and access to our Employee Owned Trust (EOT). We also make every effort to stay in touch during mobilisation, keeping them connected and informed.

Once they return, we ensure a smooth reintegration, either into their previous role or, if not possible, an equivalent one. Time is provided to re-familiarise themselves with workplace systems and updates.

By embedding these measures into our people policies, we make sure Churchill Group is not just a forces-friendly employer in name, but in action. We are proud to support those who serve, both within our teams and across the wider veteran community. Together with Walking With The Wounded, Churchill Group is proud to support veterans, not just in words, but through lasting, tangible actions.
